Meet Tonya Olsen

My first design challenge was in 1979 at the age of eight. My parents had just built a new house and my mom entrusted me with the task of decorating my bedroom. I was allowed to choose the paint, carpet, bedspread and headboard.

I chose a violet purple paint for the walls. I'm sure I didn't have many options since there were only about a dozen or so paint colors available back then.

In the 70s and 80s, every room in the house had a different color and/or style of flooring so I selected a multi-tone, purple, sculptured carpet.

I ordered my purple, ruffled bedspread from a catalog which could only have come from JCPenney, Sears or Montgomery Ward.

I selected a white vinyl tufted headboard with brass nail heads.

Most of all, I remember the elation I felt in designing my very own bedroom. I felt proud that my mom had enough confidence in me to allow me to make such major decisions at such a young age. That early motivation inspired a lifelong pursuit of interior design.

While my design tastes have evolved over the years, my love for interior design remains as impassioned as ever. My goal at LIV Showroom is to assist each client in creating beautiful spaces and to provide inspiration... room by room.
