Silver and Gold! Silver and Gold!

First things first, let me introduce myself!  My name is Samantha Zenger and I have been with LIV from the very beginning when we were just three. So small but oh, so TALENTED. *Fist bump to the chest and out with the peace sign to my posse.*  Those were the days.  I graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho with a bachelors in Interior Design and than received my LEED AP certificate (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Accredited Professional). Wow, that was a mouthful!  Although this foundation was awesome, and in my opinion necessary; my life experiences, trial and error, and the other amazing designers I had the privilege of working with, have added to my noggin even more and truly allowed my passion for this industry to grow.  And because of all that I have discovered something about myself, I am an eclectic.  For those of you who are not familiar with this term it simply means, "a person who derives ideas, styles or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources." (Yes, I got that from Google search.  Aren't you glad I saved you the trouble?) In other words, I like everything. So I have an appreciation for all forms of good design and love designing in all styles.  My mantra is, "surround yourself with what you love and it will always feel like home."  What do I mean by that?  Well, I don't just hang a picture on a wall to hang a picture. There is a connection and meaning to that piece of art for me. This mantra can be transferred into other aspects of our lives, don't you think?  That's a subject for another day!  Bottom line, I connect with my surroundings and that is what I want to help you do too!

Moving on to the hot topic of today. Silver and Gold!  Let's mix them together! Mix those together? Get real! That's what I would have said a few years back, but my tune has changed since then, mostly thanks to my mother-in-law. Yes, sometimes those mother-in-laws do know what their talking about. This particular mother-in-law happens to be a natural interior design guru, so we love to bounce ideas off of each other for all of our projects.  I was working on a redo in my own home and said to her, "I really think this white cabinet is screaming for a touch of gold, but I can't mix gold and silver." and to that she spoke with confidence and years of experience under her belt, "Of course you can, silver and gold are neutrals." Even after years of schooling, I never had the notion to pair the two. That would be like wearing black and brown. You will never see me caught dead in that color combination.  So back to my story. I did it! I added a touch of gold and you know what gold and silver are soul mates!  Now don't go out and start painting the town gold and silver, but let me say that a subtle mix of the two is a beautiful thing.  So without further ado, here is a project in the works and the thing I love about it is the mix of materials and textures and yes...silver and gold.

Here we have our inspiration photos for the living room and entryway and below is the concepts we came up with. Note this is only inspiration for various aspects and we made it our own in the end by adding a little more silver, gold and navy.

Okay, people I'm drooling over here.  Look at the subtle gold on the shagreen/metal nesting side table.  Gorgeous.  It seamlessly blends and feels very sophisticated. The feminine chair will be covered in a navy blue velvet or patterned textile to match the blue pillows on the existing sofa. Yummy!

Here is our two options for the entryway.  We nailed it, didn't we? Two totally different options but they both work, because like I said before - silver and gold are neutrals.  So have fun with it, add a little something gold and silver to your space or come on in and we'll help you accomplish the perfect blend.

Surround yourself with what you love! Until next time,

Samantha
