Designer Tip: Keeping it Simple

This month, let's discuss window treatments. They are simple but add a little touch of detailing for a classic look. I love a room with a fun, patterned window treatment. The challenge comes with longevity. If your budget allows for swapping out window treatments when patterns and color becomes dated, then go for it. If not, try using ribbon (or tape as we call it in the industry) for a little detailing but a longer-lasting look.

From this image you can barely see the black striped detailing my previous partner and co-author, Tonya Olsen, added to this executive home dining area we completed in Bountiful, Utah. It's a stunning and yet subtle and boasts a classic detail. An updated look evokes interest yet keeps it classic.

Pam added a pretty, coral-leading edge detail in this Holladay, Utah home. It's very colorful without being too intense for such a classic space.

Here I added in a colorful detail in this basement for a hint of brightness that's not too in-your-face.
