Project Update: A Retro Office
What do you if you have an office straight out of the 70s complete with dark wood paneling and a mirrored wetbar? You embrace the quirkiness and create a retro inspired space. This is an example of one our Liv Comfortably packages. We created a design plan and the homeowner implemented our ideas. The biggest challenge in this space was how darn dark it was and the walls would not be changing. Here's how it came out: We brought light literally into the space by adding art lights above the built in. We chose to add cork to the backs of the bookcases to break up the dark wood and hide the cords from the lights. All of the accent colors in the space are bold and hot. We added pops of hot pink, red, yellow, and orange throughout the space. The man of the house has been saving these bullfight posters from Spain for many years. They really personalize the space. Hanging these prints on the bookcases help make them a feature and help break up the dark cabinetry.Several of the books were placed with the pages out to lighten up the space. We think they add some great texture. Some of the homeowner's collections were currated nicely in the bookcases. Rather than fight against a quirky retro room why not work with it? This space turned out to be a fun reflection of the homeowners and provided a great place for them to display some of the treasured items. This room is another great example of how creating a great design doesn't always mean spending a lot of money. We were able to create a plan for these clients that really transformed the space.
