Project Update: Construction Begins
While it's not very much fun to live in a construction zone for the homeowner, as a designer when construction begins is one of the best parts. It great to see the plan all come together. In this case, we've loved working with this homeowner creating a room for their family of six. The room needed to be functional first and pretty much bullet proof for their 3 boys and 1 daughter. Space planning was important because of the scale of the room. We went for a larger than normal sofa and created a seating arrangement around a new focal point fireplace. Originally the fireplace was in the corner, and it didn't take much (well...I didn't have to do the actual "moving" of the fireplace) to move it to create a new focal point that has dual design purpose. The original room had a strange ceiling line transition to the kitchen. We added the new fireplace wall and built-ins along with a transom and now the room has architectural detail, a focal point, added storage, and the strange ceiling line is gone! All that from one "simple" change.
Here's a peak at the "before" of the room.
And here is the design plan...perfectly planned with plenty of seating (notice the perfectly placed addition of a bench seat), a new focal point fireplace, added storage, architectural and ceiling details (can't wait until the beams get added!), and lots of comfort for a family to enjoy time together.
And here...the progress begins. Can't wait to update with the finished product. This is going to be a great transformation.
